Super Bowl III-NY Jets 16, Baltimore 7-This game is best marked by Jets QB Joe Namath's famous "guarantee" of a win a few days earlier. Namath delivered on that promise, leading the Jets with 206 yards passing to go with a defense that intercepted Earl Morrall three times in the first half.
MVP: Joe Namath, QB, NY Jets
Super Bowl IV-Kansas City 23, Minnesota 7-Chiefs QB Len Dawson completed 12 of 17 passes and a touchdown, and the KC defense shut down the Vikings for most of the game. Jan Stenerud kicked three field goals in the first half as the Chiefs built a 16-0 halftime lead.

Super Bowl V-Baltimore 16, Dallas 13-This game was decided in the final five seconds of the game, as Colts K Jim O'Brien booted a 32-yard field goal to win it. It was a game dominated by defense, with Dallas LB Chuck Howley intercepting two passes to win the MVP in a losing effort.
MVP: Chuck Howley, LB, Dallas
Super Bowl VI-Dallas 24, Miami 3-Cowboys QB Roger Staubach threw for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and once again LB Chuck Howley led Dallas' defense with a fumble recovery and an interception. It was the first time a team held a Super Bowl opponent to zero touchdowns.
MVP: Roger Staubach, QB, Dallas
Super Bowl VII-Miami 14, Washington 7-The Dolphins capped a perfect 17-0 season by playing a stellar defensive game, allowing the Redskins to cross the 50-yard line just once. In fact, Washington's only score came on special teams when Mike Bass returned a misplayed field goal for a touchdown. Jake Scott had two interceptions for the Dolphins, including one in the end zone.
MVP: Jake Scott, S, Miami
Super Bowl VIII-Miami 24, Minnesota 7-Dolphins RB Larry Csonka cemented his place in NFL history by rushing 33 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns. MVP: Larry Csonka, RB, Miami
Super Bowl IX-Pittsburgh 16, Minnesota 6-The Steelers gained 333 yards on the ground, including RB Franco Harris' 158 yards and a touchdown. Pittsburgh's defense stymied the Vikings' offense, allowing only a blocked punt recovery in the end zone for Minnesota's only score.
MVP: Franco Harris, RB, Pittsburgh
Super Bowl X-Pittsburgh 21, Dallas 17-Steelers WR Lynn Swann caught four passes for 161 yards and a touchdown and QB Terry Bradshaw added one more TD pass for Pittsburgh. The Steelers held off a late rally by the Cowboys, with Glen Edwards intercepting a Roger Staubach pass to ice the game.
MVP: Lynn Swann, WR, Pittsburgh
Super Bowl XI-Oakland 32, Minnesota 14-Though he didn't score a touchdown, Raiders WR Fred Biletnikoff caught four key passes for 79 yards to take home the MVP. But John Madden's Raiders won with a total team effort. RB Pete Banaszak scored two touchdowns, QB Ken Stabler threw for 180 yards and a TD pass to TE Dave Casper, and CB Willie Brown added a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown.
MVP: Fred Biletnikoff, WR, Oakland
Super Bowl XII-Dallas 27, Denver 10-The Cowboys dominated most of the game on both sides of the ball, but it was their defense that keyed the victory, forcing eight turnovers (four fumbles, four interceptions). Aside from a diving TD catch by Butch Johnson, the Cowboys added a TD pass from RB Robert Newhouse to Golden Richards.
MVP: Randy White, DT, Dallas, and Harvey Martin, DE, Dallas (co-MVPs)
Super Bowl XIII-Pittsburgh 35, Dallas 31-Even though the Cowboys put up quite a fight, they could not overcome 318 yards passing and four touchdowns by Steelers QB Terry Bradshaw. John Stallworth caught two TD passes, and Pittsburgh became the first team to win three Super Bowls.
MVP: Terry Bradshaw, QB, Pittsburgh
Super Bowl XIV-Pittsburgh 31, LA Rams 19-Terry Bradshaw put on another clinic, throwing for 309 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Steelers to their fourth Super Bowl victory. The Rams led 19-17 at one point, but Bradshaw hit John Stallworth for a 73-yard TD as well as a 45-yard pass that set up Franco Harris' 1-yard TD to secure the victory.
MVP: Terry Bradshaw, QB, Pittsburgh
Super Bowl XV-Oakland 27, Philadelphia 10-The Raiders made history by becoming the first wild-card team to win the Super Bowl. Oakland was led by QB Jim Plunkett, who threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns, and by LB Rod Martin, who intercepted three Ron Jaworski passes.
MVP: Jim Plunkett, QB, Oakland
Super Bowl XVI-San Francisco 26, Cincinnati 21-49ers QB Joe Montana ran for a score and threw for another as San Francisco built a 20-0 halftime lead they would not relinquish. The Bengals gained 356 yards and made a valiant comeback, led by QB Ken Anderson, but fell short. Ray Wersching added four field goals for the Niners.
MVP: Joe Montana, QB, San Francisco
Super Bowl XVII-Washington 27, Miami 17-Redskins RB John Riggins set a Super Bowl record by rushing for 166 yards. Riggins added a touchdown, and Washington QB Joe Theismann had two TD passes. Joe Gibbs' Redskins had a balanced attack that racked up 400 yards on offense, the second-most in Super Bowl history at the time.
MVP: John Riggins, RB, Washington
Super Bowl XVIII-LA Raiders 38, Washington 9-The Raiders dominated the game from start to finish, building a 21-3 halftime lead. RB Marcus Allen rushed for 191 yards and two TDs, as the Raiders scored the most points in a Super Bowl since Green Bay's 35 in Super Bowl I.
MVP: Marcus Allen, RB, LA Raiders
Super Bowl XIX-San Francisco 38, Miami 16-49ers QB Joe Montana threw for 331 yards and three TDs, and RB Roger Craig added three TDs (two receiving, one rushing). MVP: Joe Montana, QB, San Francisco

MVP: Richard Dent, DE, Chicago
Super Bowl XXI-NY Giants 39, Denver 20-Giants QB Phil Simms was near perfect, connecting on 22 of 25 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns, and the Giants defense held off a potent Broncos offense led by QB John Elway. After a Giants' goal-line stand and Denver K Rich Karlis' missed 23-yard field goal, New York scored 30 points in the second half to put the game away.
MVP: Phil Simms, QB, NY Giants
Super Bowl XXII-Washington 42, Denver 10-After the Broncos built a 10-point lead, the Redskins' offense erupted for 35 points in the second half before coasting to victory.
Washington QB Doug Williams threw for 342 yards and four touchdowns, and ‘Skins rookie RB Timmy Smith racked up a Super Bowl record 204 yards rushing as well as two TDs.
MVP: Doug Williams, QB, Washington
Super Bowl XXIII-San Francisco 20, Cincinnati 16-In one of the closest games in recent years, the 49ers dominated in offensive yards but found themselves trailing 16-13 late in the game. But QB Joe Montana found his magic touch once again, hitting WR John Taylor for what turned out to be the game-winning score. WR Jerry Rice had a Super Bowl record 215 yards receiving and a touchdown for the Niners.
MVP: Jerry Rice, WR, San Francisco
Super Bowl XXIV-San Francisco 55, Denver 10-The Niners tied Pittsburgh's record of four Super Bowl victories by annihilating the Broncos with a 55-point onslaught. QB Joe Montana was the MVP again, throwing for 297 yards and a record five touchdown passes. WR Jerry Rice had 148 yards receiving and three of the five TDs.
MVP: Joe Montana, QB, San Francisco
Super Bowl XXV-NY Giants 20, Buffalo 19-The Bills' explosive offense was supposed to dominate this one, but the Giants' game plan of keeping the ball way from QB Jim Kelly and company worked to perfection. The Giants' held the ball for 40 minutes, with QB Jeff Hostetler and RB Ottis Anderson leading a balanced attack. After K Matt Bahr put the Giants ahead, Bills K Scott Norwood was wide right on what would have been the game-winner for Buffalo.
MVP: Ottis Anderson, RB, NY Giants
Super Bowl XXVI-Washington 37, Buffalo 24-The Redskins intercepted Bills QB Jim Kelly four times, and built up a 24-0 lead led by QB Mark Rypien's 292 yards and two TD passes. The Redskins had 417 yards of offense to lead HC Joe Gibbs to his third Super Bowl win.
MVP: Mark Rypien, QB, Washington
Super Bowl XXVII-Dallas 52, Buffalo 17-Contributing to the Bills' third straight Super Bowl loss were the nine turnovers forced by Dallas. The Cowboys converted many of those turnovers into points, as QB Troy Aikman threw for four touchdowns and RB Emmitt Smith rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown. WR Michael Irvin caught two TD passes for Dallas.
MVP: Troy Aikman, QB, Dallas
Super Bowl XXVIII-Dallas 30, Buffalo 13-The Cowboys trailed 13-6 at halftime and it looked like Buffalo had finally removed the proverbial monkey from its back. But after Cowboys S James Washington returned a Thurman Thomas fumble 46 yards for a touchdown, RB Emmit Smith rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns to complete the Dallas comeback.
MVP: Emmitt Smith, RB, Dallas
Super Bowl XXIX-San Francisco 49, San Diego 26-After living in the shadow of Joe Montana for several years, 49ers QB Steve Young led his team to victory with 325 yards and a Super Bowl record six touchdown passes. MVP: Larry Brown, CB, Dallas
Super Bowl XXXI-Green Bay 35, New England 21-With 244 return yards, including a 99-yard touchdown, Packers KR/WR Desmond Howard set the tone for the game. Green Bay QB Brett Favre threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Packers won their first Super Bowl in 29 years over Bill Parcells' Patriots. Green Bay also had a stellar defensive game, picking off New England QB Drew Bledsoe four times and with DE Reggie White setting a Super Bowl record with three sacks.
MVP: Desmond Howard, KR/WR, Green Bay
Super Bowl XXXII-Denver 31, Green Bay 24-Broncos RB Terrell Davis rushed for 157 yards and a Super Bowl record three touchdowns, and QB John Elway rushed for another TD as the Broncos won their first Super Bowl. QB Brett Favre had 256 yards and a touchdown, but his Packers could not overcome two lost fumbles and a Tyrone Braxton interception.
MVP: Terrell Davis, RB, Denver
Super Bowl XXXIII-Denver 34, Atlanta 19-In his last NFL game, Broncos QB John Elway passed for 336 yards, an 80-yard touchdown bomb to WR Rod Smith, and one rushing TD in winning MVP honors and leading his team to its second consecutive Super Bowl win. MVP: John Elway, QB, Denver
Super Bowl XXXIV-St. Louis 23, Tennessee 16-With the Titans driving in the final minute to try and tie the game, Mike Jones tackled WR Kevin Dyson at the 1-yard line, preserving the victory for the Rams. St. Louis QB Kurt Warner threw for a Super Bowl record 414 yards and added two touchdown passes, but the Rams kept coming up short of the end zone as Jeff Wilkins kicked three field goals, which allowed the Titans to keep the game close.
MVP: Kurt Warner, QB, St. Louis
Super Bowl XXXV-Baltimore 34, NY Giants 7-The Ravens' swarming defense, led by LB Ray Lewis, set the tone by forcing five turnovers and sacking Giants QB Kerry Collins four times. RB Jamal Lewis led the Ravens with 102 yards and a touchdown, and each team scored TDs on kickoff returns. The Ravens' three touchdowns in a span of 36 seconds was a Super Bowl record.
MVP: Ray Lewis, LB, Baltimore
Super Bowl XXXVI-New England 20, St. Louis 17-Patriots K Adam Vinatieri began a string of Super Bowl magic by kicking a 48-yard field goal as time expired to give New England its first title. Though the explosive Rams offense out gained the Patriots 427-267 in total yards, St. Louis could not overcome a 3-0 turnover differential. Though Patriots QB Tom Brady was held to 145 yards and a touchdown pass, he won the MVP by leading his team down the field for the winning field goal with no timeouts.
MVP: Tom Brady, QB, New England
Super Bowl XXXVII-Tampa Bay 48, Oakland 21-Though they scored 48 points, it was the Buccaneers' defense that led its team to victory by intercepting Raiders QB Rich Gannon five times, returning three of those for touchdowns. WR Keenan McCardell caught two TD passes from QB Brad Johnson, and S Dexter Jackson won MVP honors with two interceptions.
MVP: Dexter Jackson, S, Tampa Bay
Super Bowl XXXVIII-New England 32, Carolina 29-Though the game was 0-0 almost 27 minutes in, the teams combined for 868 total yards and 37 fourth quarter points. Once again, Patriots K Adam Vinatieri booted a game-winning field goal, this one with four seconds remaining in regulation, and QB Tom Brady led the Pats with 354 yards and three TD passes to earn the MVP.
MVP: Tom Brady, QB, New England
Super Bowl XXXIX-New England 24, Philadelphia 21-New England won its third Super Bowl in four years, and each time it was by a three-point margin. Though he didn't score a touchdown, Patriots WR Deion Branch had 133 yards receiving and New England's defense forced four turnovers. Eagles QB Donovan McNabb had 357 yards and three TDs, but also had three interceptions.
MVP: Deion Branch, WR, New England
Super Bowl XL-Pittsburgh 21, Seattle 10-With Steelers RB Jerome Bettis playing his final NFL game in his hometown of Detroit, Pittsburgh was led by WR Hines Ward, who caught five passes for 123 yards and a TD. RB Willie Parker added a 75-yard TD run, and Seattle was done in by penalties, dropped passes, poor clock management, and an ill-timed interception of QB Matt Hasselbeck. Pittsburgh tied Dallas and San Francisco for all-time Super Bowl victories with five.
MVP: Hines Ward, WR, Pittsburgh
Super Bowl XLI-Indianapolis 29, Chicago 17-In a game that many will remember for its rainy conditions in Miami, Peyton Manning led the Colts to the title and finally won the big game that kept eluding him. Manning threw for 247 yards and one touchdown, making HC Tony Dungy the first African-American coach to win a Super Bowl. Not surprisingly, the game featured six fumbles and three interceptions on a rain-soaked field, but Manning finally winning it all was the biggest news.
MVP: Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis
Super Bowl XLII--NY Giants 17, New England 14--The Giants were 12-point underdogs, but had won 10 straight road games, including three in the playoffs. The Patriots were 18-0 and gunning for history as the first 19-0 team. But the Giants rose to the occasion with a fierce pass rush on Tom Brady, timely plays by Eli Manning and David Tyree, and a will to win that the Patriots could not overcome. Many will look back on this as one of the greatest Super Bowls ever. In addition, Eli Manning took home the MVP, giving the Manning brothers back-to-back championships and Super Bowl MVP awards.
MVP: Eli Manning, QB, NY Giants
Super Bowl XLIII--Pittsburgh 27, Arizona 23--And you thought nothing could top the drama of Super Bowl XLII? For the second straight year, we had a truly exciting game, in which the Cardinals rallied from being down 20-7 to take a 23-20 lead, only to have Ben Roethlisberger come through in the clutch, capped off by a stunning TD catch by Santonio Holmes, who won the game MVP. After years of bad mis-matches, the Super Bowl has once again become a game worth watching in its entirety.
MVP: Santonio Holmes, WR, Pittsburgh
Super Bowl XLIV--New Orleans 31, Indianapolis 17--This was the first meeting of #1 seeds in the Super Bowl since 1993, and both teams got off to blistering regular season starts--the Colts 14-0 before losing their last two, and the Saints 13-0 before losing their last three games. But both dominated in the postseason until meeting in Miami. The Colts were favored, but they hadn't faced an offense quite like New Orleans'. And though the Colts jumped out to a 10-0 lead, Drew Brees methodically picked the Colts' defense apart, and Sean Payton gambled and won with an onside kick to start the second half. Of course, Tracy Porter's pick six of Peyton Manning late in the fourth quarter was the clincher.
MVP: Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans
Super Bowl XLV--Green Bay 31, Pittsburgh 25--This game pitted two of the NFL's most storied franchises, and also two teams with a rich history with regard to the Super Bowl itself. The Steelers had six Super Bowl wins and the Packers three before this game, and the matchup also featured two stout defenses led by Green Bay's Clay Matthews and Pittsburgh's James Harrison and Troy Polamalu; and two of the game's bright young QBs in Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger. But in the end, it was Rodgers' 304 passing yards and three touchdown passes that were the difference, despite a furious comeback by the Steelers, who had trailed the Packers 21-3 late in the first half.
MVP: Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay

Awesome site, just what I was looking for! One thing to up it one notch will be to add the year (in parentheses) next to the the superbowl number.
Man i love sport, this is cool hub.
best super bowls: 23: Niners v. Bengals, and the last one, third place Broncos over Packers
worst bowls: 49ers over Denver 55-10 in the dome, XLI, third place Dallas over Buffalo the first time
I love this game too. Thanks for your hub..
Hello to everyone, HAPPY 2009 NEW YEAR to everybody
Thanks, Keith Maute
You forgot the last one:
Super Bowl XLIII--Eagles 20, Pittsburgh 16--The Eagles were big underdogs, but were playing hot in the playoffs. They were also the first-ever 6th seed team to make it into the superbowl. With much previous playoff experience, however, Donovan carried his team on his back with only one interception early in the game, one rushing TD and one passing TD to Brian Westbrook. Big Ben had a great game, but was unable to get into the end zone through the air. His team was held to one rushing TD (a la Willie Parker) and three field goals.
In other news, kicker David Akers received accolades for kicking his 19th straight post-season field goal.
MVP:Donovan McNabb, QB, Philadelphia Eagles
has anyone won a super bowl with a tie in there record
Wedding Consultant, Super Bowl XLIII- hasn't happened yet As far as the eagles game, that was just the afc championship, which was the superbowl matchup. ( -Eagles 20, Pittsburgh 16-- ) All there is left now is see who wins Super Bowl XLIII between the Cardinals and Steelers. Though, I am not a fan of either, I think the Steelers have this one in the bag too.
THE EAGLES? HAHA THEY WISH. NEVER HAPPENED.
Great Post

For someone who is new to this sport, I found this hub to be a great read and just what I was looking for to provide me with a quick history of Superbowl winners. 10 out of 10
Very good hub. Its interesting for someone like me to see the history of how all the superbowls played out. I'm 27 so I don't remember/wasn't around for many of these. Good to read about the patriots wins, (hey, I'm a big Pats fan) but hard to read about the loss to the giants. I never realized Buffalo went to 4 superbowls in a row and lost all of them. Ouch! thanks again for the hub.
